Angel Reese has added another big achievement to her growing list of successes. This time, it is not a basketball award or an All-Star selection. The WNBA star now has her very own Barbie doll.

Mattel recently unveiled a Barbie based on Reese as part of its Role Models collection. The release came just before the 2026 WNBA All-Star Game, making the moment even more special for the Atlanta Dream player.

What makes this honor stand out even more is that Reese has proudly called herself “Bayou Barbie” for years. Because of that, the new doll feels like a natural step in her journey rather than just another brand partnership.

The new Barbie was carefully designed to look like Reese. The doll features her famous No. 5 jersey along with details fans know well, including her leg sleeve and headband.

Mattel also added a custom pink jersey that connects both her professional career and her college basketball days at LSU. It is a small detail, but one that highlights important parts of her story.

The doll became available through major retailers including Target, Walmart, Amazon, and Mattel’s official store. It was released alongside a matching Reebok sneaker collaboration, giving fans even more ways to celebrate the launch.

Speaking about the project, Reese shared a message about believing in yourself. She said she has always followed her own path and refused to let others decide what she could or could not achieve. She hopes her story encourages young people to push past doubt and keep moving forward.

A Growing List of Trailblazing Women

Reese is now part of a special group of Black women who have received their own Barbie dolls over the years.

These dolls do more than celebrate famous people. They highlight women who have broken barriers, inspired others, and changed their fields in meaningful ways.

Looking at the list shows how Barbie has expanded its idea of who can be a role model.

Misty Copeland Brought Ballet History to Barbie

One of the most memorable additions to the collection was Misty Copeland.

In 2016, Copeland became the first Black woman to receive her own Barbie through Mattel’s Sheroes programme. She earned the honour after becoming the first African American woman named principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre.

Her doll wore a bright costume inspired by her famous performance in Firebird. Copeland also helped with the design process to make sure the doll reflected her athletic build and dancing style.

The result was a Barbie that celebrated strength, talent, and years of hard work.

Gabby Douglas Inspired a New Generation

Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas also joined the Barbie family.

Douglas made history at the 2012 Olympic Games when she became the first African American gymnast to win gold in the individual all-around competition.

Her achievements inspired countless young athletes around the world. When she received her Barbie doll, Douglas said it was difficult to believe she was being viewed as such an important role model.

Her story showed young girls that big dreams can become reality through dedication and perseverance.

Tennis star Naomi Osaka became part of the Barbie Role Models series in 2021.

The doll was dressed in the same outfit Osaka wore during her successful run at the 2020 Australian Open. It reflected one of the most important moments of her career.

At the time, Osaka said she wanted children everywhere to feel confident enough to chase their goals.

As one of the most successful tennis players of her generation, she continues to inspire people both on and off the court.

In 2017, Olympic fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad helped make Barbie history.

Mattel created the first Barbie doll to wear a hijab, inspired by Muhammad’s groundbreaking career. She became the first Muslim American woman to compete at the Olympics while wearing a hijab.

For many children, the doll represented something they had never seen before.

It gave young girls the chance to see themselves reflected in a toy that celebrated achievement, identity, and confidence.

Simone Biles Showed the Power of Excellence

Simone Biles is another athlete who earned her place in the Barbie lineup.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, Biles has won numerous Olympic and world championship medals throughout her career.

Her Barbie captured the strength and determination that have made her one of the most respected athletes in the world.

The honour recognised not only her success in gymnastics but also her influence as a role model for young people everywhere.

Zendaya’s Meaningful Barbie Moment

Actress Zendaya also received her own Barbie years before reaching her current level of global fame.

The doll was inspired by her appearance at the 2015 Oscars, where she wore her hair in natural locs.

At the time, the hairstyle became part of a larger public conversation. What began as criticism from some people eventually became a powerful symbol of pride and representation.

The Barbie honoured that important moment and celebrated individuality.

Why Angel Reese’s Barbie Matters

Angel Reese joining this group is about much more than a toy.

Her addition places her alongside athletes, artists, entrepreneurs, activists, and entertainers who have all made a lasting impact.

For many children, seeing dolls that reflect different backgrounds, careers, and experiences can be meaningful. It expands the idea of what success can look like.

Reese’s influence already reaches beyond basketball. Through fashion, media appearances, and her podcast Unapologetically Angel, she has built a platform that allows her to connect with people in many different ways.

Now, with her own Barbie on store shelves, her story becomes part of a larger collection celebrating women who inspire others to dream bigger and believe in themselves.
