Hayden Panettiere Shares the Heartbreaking Reason She Let Her Daughter Live With Her Father

In her memoir, she explained why she allowed her daughter to live with her father, even though it was very difficult for her.

Hayden Says It Was the Hardest Choice She Ever Made

Hayden Panettiere said giving up full custody of her daughter, Kaya, was the most painful decision she has ever faced.

Her Daughter Has Lived With Wladimir Klitschko Since 2018

Panettiere revealed that her daughter, Kaya, has been living with her father, former boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko, since 2018.

Today, Kaya is 11 years old. According to Hayden, her daughter has built a stable life while living with her father in Europe.

Although they live apart, Hayden says she has always stayed connected with her daughter as much as possible.

She Wanted to Protect Her Daughter

Hayden explained that one of the biggest reasons behind her decision was to protect Kaya.

She believed that fighting over custody would have turned into a very public legal battle because both parents are well known. She worried that such a conflict could leave lasting emotional scars on her daughter.

Instead of creating more stress, she chose what she believed would give Kaya the most peaceful childhood.

She Felt Her Daughter Was in a Safe Place

The actress said she felt comforted after seeing the life her daughter had in Europe.

She spoke about the strong support system around Kaya and said she knew her daughter was safe and cared for every day.

Knowing that gave Hayden some peace, even though being apart was incredibly painful.

Panettiere said she never questioned whether her daughter was receiving good care.

She shared that Kaya had everything she needed and was surrounded by people who loved and supported her.

For Hayden, knowing her daughter was happy and secure made the difficult decision a little easier to accept.

She Planned to Visit Whenever She Could

Even though Kaya lived in another country, Hayden said she never planned to disappear from her daughter’s life.

She explained that she wanted to travel to Europe whenever possible so they could spend time together.

She hoped that staying involved would help keep their bond strong despite the distance.

She Tried to Hide Her Struggles From Her Daughter

The actress admitted she was not in a good place emotionally at the time.

She said she tried very hard to keep those struggles away from Kaya because she did not want her daughter to carry that burden.

Looking back, Hayden believes protecting her child was one of the most important things she could do.

She Says the Emotional Pain Was Overwhelming
